The broadcasting fee is expected to increase in the coming year. The Prime Minister decided on Thursday (March 12), as the State Chancellery of Rhineland-Palatinate announced. Accordingly, the contribution is to be increased by 86 cents from EUR 17.50 per month to EUR 18.36. It would be the first increase since 2009.
"Great challenges"
"The contribution has not increased for eleven years. And the heads of state of the federal states have demanded major austerity measures from the broadcasting corporations," said Prime Minister Malu Dreyer (59), chairwoman of the regional broadcasting commission. "At the same time, the public service institutions are facing major challenges with the digital transformation and further investments."
This was followed by a preliminary briefing of the state parliaments, after which the heads of government wanted to sign the treaty of change until the prime ministerial conference in June 2020. Finally, ratification by the state parliaments is pending.
