Public transport strike started! Where buses and trains are now at a standstill and where they are not

Commuters, students and other passengers will have to prepare for significant restrictions on local public transport on Friday (since 3 a.m.). With a warning strike, the Verdi union largely paralyzes bus, subway and tram traffic in 15 federal states.

Baden-Württemberg

The municipal transport companies in Baden-Baden, Esslingen, Freiburg, Heilbronn, Karlsruhe, Konstanz and Stuttgart are affected by the all-day strike, as Verdi announced.

Bavaria

Municipal transport buses and trains run without restrictions. The Verdi union is currently negotiating for all federal states except Bavaria.

Berlin

In Berlin the strike should only last until 10 a.m. Local public transport should then gradually start up again. According to the Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe (BVG), all trams and subways as well as most bus routes will be canceled during the industrial action.

Bus lines M36 and 106 will be in operation, among others. The few ferry lines will also run as usual.

Brandenburg

There is an all-day strike in Brandenburg. 14 transport companies are affected here. Potsdam GmbH has already announced that between Friday 3 a.m. and Saturday 4 a.m. all tram, ferry and most bus trips will be canceled.

The transport companies in the districts of Oberspreewald-Lausitz, Ostprignitz-Ruppin, Prignitz and Uckermark are not affected by the industrial dispute – traffic moves here.

There will also be no strike on rail traffic. According to the Berlin-Brandenburg transport association, S-Bahn, regional and long-distance trains should run as planned. The Odeg and NEB trains are also not on strike.

Bremen

In Bremen, the employees of Bremer Straßenbahn AG are on strike. The night lines are also affected. Individual trips are carried out on lines 29/52, 57/58 as well as 63S and 81.

Hamburg & Schleswig-Holstein

The Verdi union has called on employees of the Hamburg-Holstein transport company (VHH) to go on warning strikes. The VHH primarily operates bus routes in the Schleswig-Holstein area surrounding Hamburg. School bus routes are also affected by the strike.

However, the Hamburg S-Bahn and regional trains are not affected.

Hesse

The Verdi union is calling on its members to go on warning strikes at municipal transport companies. Local transport in Frankfurt, Kassel and Wiesbaden is particularly affected.

In Offenbach, however, no restrictions are to be expected.

Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania

Rostocker Straßenbahn AG (RSAG), among others, has been affected since 3:30 a.m. There, all journeys on all bus and tram lines will be canceled for the duration of the strike. This also applies to the two night bus routes F1 and F2. RSAG emphasized that S-Bahn and regional trains operated by Deutsche Bahn were not affected by the strike.

According to the union, the following companies are affected by the warning strike: VLP (Verkehrsbetriebe Ludwigslust Parchim), Nahbus (Nordwestmecklenburg GmbH), RSAG Rostock, Rebus (Regionalbus Rostock), MVVG (Mecklenburg-Vorpommersche Verkehrsgesellschaft mbH), VBG (Verkehrsbetrieb Greifswald GmbH), VVG ( Verkehrsgesellschaft Vorpommern-Greifswald mbH).

Lower Saxony

In Lower Saxony, employees of the Braunschweig transport company, the Göttingen transport company, the trolleybus and SWO-Mobil in Osnabrück, the Goslar city bus, Üstra Hannover and the Wolfsburg transport company stopped work.

North Rhine-Westphalia

This Friday, there will be no trams or subways in North Rhine-Westphalia. In many places there are only a few buses in local public transport. Almost all major transport companies such as KVB (Cologne), Rheinbahn (Düsseldorf), DSW21 (Dortmund) and the Münster municipal utility are on strike.

An exception is the Aachen transport company ASEAG, which is not on strike and whose buses run in Aachen and the city region. But the RVK (Cologne), the RSVG (Troisdorf), the OVAG (Gummersbach) and the WVG group (Münster) are also not on strike.

Rhineland-Palatinate

This affects all operations and locations of KRN-Kommunalverkehr Rhein-Nahe GmbH, Mainzer Verkehrsgesellschaft mbH, Stadtwerke Pirmasens Verkehrs-GmbH, SWK Stadtwerke Kaiserslautern Verkehrs-AG and SWT AöR of the city of Trier.

In the private bus industry in Rhineland-Palatinate, for example, all companies and locations are DB Regio Bus Mitte GmbH, DB Regio Bus Rhein-Mosel GmbH, Palatina Bus GmbH, SVG Scherer Verkehrs GmbH, Scherer Reisen Omnibus Gesellschaft mbH, Stemmler-Bus GmbH, Koblenzer Verkehrsbetriebe GmbH, MB Moselbahn mbH affected.

Saarland

In Saarland, the bus division of Saarbahn and Saarbahn Netz GmbH in Saarbrücken are affected. The bus drivers from FSN Fahrzeugservice Neunkirchen, the Saarlouis (KVS) and Lebach roundabouts, the Neunkircher Verkehrsgesellschaft (NVG) and the Völklinger Verkehrsbetriebe (VVB) are also on strike.

The private bus company Saar-Mobil operates without restrictions in the St. Wendel district, the Saarpfalz district and the Saarbrücken regional association. The Saarbahn line S1 is also not affected by the strike measures.

Saxony

In Saxony, the Chemnitzer Verkehrs AG, the Dresdner Verkehrsbetriebe, the Leipziger Verkehrsbetriebe, the Plauen tram and the Zwickau municipal transport company are affected. The drivers of regional bus companies are also on strike in the districts of Bautzen, Erzgebirgskreis, Görlitz, Central Saxony, Meißen, Saxon Switzerland/Eastern Ore Mountains and Zwickau.

Saxony-Anhalt

In Saxony-Anhalt, buses and trains will remain in the depots on Friday in the Burgenland district, Dessau, Halle and Magdeburg.

Thuringia

In the Free State, the municipal transport companies in Erfurt, Gera, Jena, the Kyffhäuser district, Mühlhausen, Nordhausen, the Saale-Holzland district, the Unstrut-Hainich district and Weimar are among those affected by the all-day work stoppages. There will be significant restrictions for passengers, especially during rush hour.

How do I get to work now?

That is different. In Munich and Nuremberg, the subway, bus and tram run continuously. In Nuremberg too. In Berlin there are only strikes on Friday mornings. Employees should inform themselves in good time about the start and end of the strike.

Rail transport is excluded from the strike. S-Bahn, regional and long-distance trains should run as scheduled. In order to cushion the expected rush on the roads, commuters should, if possible, postpone appointments or switch to working from home, said an ADAC spokeswoman.

If you rely on a car, you should check the traffic situation to avoid traffic jams. Alternatives include switching to bicycles or forming small groups of commuters who share a car, said the spokeswoman.
