A 48-year-old had a fatal accident on Sunday with his kayak in the Isel river in East Tyrol. Any help came too late for the man.
The East Tyrolean capsized his kayak in the municipality of Virgen. His head got under water and the kayak got stuck between two boulders. His companion ahead, noticing that something had happened, immediately went back over the stony bank and tried to turn the boat – which he was unable to do on the slippery stones in the strong current.
The experienced canoeist was pulled out of the boat by the current and drifted away about 700 meters, where he could be pulled ashore by the notified fire brigade.
In the case of the East Tyrolean, however, only death could be determined.
