Pulse compact #3 – Four tips for better dosing of screen time – Knowledge

Too often and for too long on the smartphone? This will draw your attention away from the monitor.

  • Tip 1: No more push notifications

Pushes keep bringing the focus back to the phone and interrupting what you are doing.

Under “Settings” you can manage the push notifications of the various apps and turn off notifications.

The fewer messages, the fewer distractions.

  • Tip 2: Screen-free times and rooms

Mealtime is the perfect break for your smartphone! Enjoy the food and the conversations that develop around the table.

And: Buy an alarm clock – otherwise the last and the first thing in the day will always be to use your mobile phone. The bedroom is a cell phone free zone.

  • Tip 3: Useful settings and apps

It’s a question of attitude: it’s called “digital wellbeing” or “screen time”. It shows how long you use which app every day. You can also limit screen time for yourself or for your kids. When the time is up, the apps are locked in Screen Time.

Also the app «Forest» helps to consciously put the smartphone aside. A tree grows for a predetermined period of time and the phone is locked for that time.

  • Tip 4: Out of sight, out of mind

It can also be done without the help of an app. “Out of sight, out of mind” is the motto, for example when you’re reading, working for school or cooking.

When you’re on the go, you put your cell phone in your backpack – or trunk, so that you don’t look at your cell phone at every possible and impossible opportunity.
