Pupil: why did the production use plastic babies?

Released in cinemas in 2018, the movie called Pupilworn by Sandrine Kiberlain, Gilles Lellouche and Elodie Bouchezwill be broadcast Sunday, August 28, 2022, from 9:05 p.m. on France 2. Between the impossibility of having a child with her companion and their breakup, she was able to bounce back by persevering in the process of adopting a child.

During the movie, we follow her evolution and her choices as well as her deep desire to become a motherin particular through scenes showing his regular meetings with Lydie, a social worker interpreted by Olivia Coast. Given that babies are at the heart of this feature film, the shooting of the scenes in which they appear was very restrictive, because subject to a heavy control. The team thus carried out a large casting in order to find the lucky ones. Luckily, hired babes turned out to be extremely easy on set, in particular the one with which Elodie Bouchez was filming. She also says that he talked to her a lot, to the point of encroaching on his text during takes.

Pupil: Jeanne Herry did not want to place babies in traumatic situations

In contrast, production had to resort to plastic babies to record certain scenes, because the director Jeanne Herry did not wish to put real babies in potentially traumatic situations. “Since it’s a film that portrays babies’ receptivity to verbal language, there was no question of taking risks, of putting them in […] scenes where they would have heard ‘your mother didn’t want you’, etc…“, explained the filmmaker.
