A defeat in the June 9 vote would be a considerable setback for Emmanuel Macron and his Prime Minister, whose future in government rests partly on the results of the European elections. So, Gabriel Attal decided to wet the jersey.

Jordan Bardella also wanted to welcome the Prime Minister’s decision. On X, he wrote: “I am delighted that Gabriel Attal has accepted this democratic confrontation. I wish her to perform well, project against project. It is healthy for the Prime Minister to engage his political and personal responsibility in the campaign of his majority.” However, it should be noted that far from being a personal choice, Gabriel Attal was sent to the front directly by President Macron.
Indeed, the Prime Minister did not have the slightest desire to debate with the king of knockouts, currently leading the polls. Unfortunately, Emmanuel Macron had another idea in mind: “I want him to get as involved in the campaign as possible by holding debates, meetings, going into the field. This is what I asked him, as also of the entire government,” admitted the head of state in an interview given to The Sunday Tribune. A request that Gabriel Attal could not refuse.
