(Reuters) – The Kremlin said on Tuesday that Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese leader Xi Jinping had an “in-depth” exchange of views during their first day of talks and discussed the peace plan of China for Ukraine, without giving further details.

Xi Jinping has also invited Vladimir Putin to China this year, according to the RIA news agency, as well as his Prime Minister Mikhail Michoustin, Chinese state media reported.

The Chinese leader, who has made his first trip abroad since Monday to Russia since being sworn in earlier this month for an unprecedented third term, is seeking to present China as a possible mediator in the conflict in Ukraine.
