MOSCOW (Reuters) – Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday signed a decree banning Russian oil exports from Feb. 1, 2023 to countries that have imposed a tariff cap.

“(This ban) will apply from February 1 to July 1, 2023,” the decree reads.

Crude exports will be banned from February 1. The date on which the ban on the export of petroleum products will come into effect will be determined by the government and may be later.

A clause provides that Vladimir Putin can revoke the ban under certain conditions.

The G7 countries, the European Union and Australia have agreed to cap the price of Russian maritime oil at $60 a barrel in order to reduce Russia’s ability to finance its war in Ukraine.
