Dec 26 (Reuters) – Russian President Vladimir Putin will hold talks with his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping, by the end of the year, the Russian news agency TASS reported on Monday, without providing further details.
TASS quotes Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov as saying both sides will provide details on the talks in due course.
Three weeks before the start of the war in Ukraine on March 24, the Russian and Chinese presidents unveiled a “limitless” strategic partnership during a visit by Vladimir Putin to China.
But since then, Beijing has shared its questions and concerns about the situation in Ukraine with Moscow.
Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, now deputy chairman of Russia’s National Security Council, met with the Chinese leader last week during a diplomatic visit.
According to the New China News Agency, Xi Jinping told Dmitry Medvedev that China hopes that all the protagonists involved in the Ukrainian crisis will show restraint and solve security problems through political means. (Mark Trevelyan, French version Laetitia Volga, edited by Sophie Louet)
