“Putsch” in Vienna – scuffles at a medical association meeting

For months there has been nothing but argument in the Vienna Medical Association. At the worst possible time. Preliminary highlight: fist fights and further complaints in the Curia meeting on Friday evening.

Friday evening, Curia meeting of the resident doctors of the Vienna Medical Association. After five minutes the situation escalates. The opponents: President Johannes Steinhart and his deputy Erik Huber. The former leaves the room with his followers and, according to Huber, conducts his “own, illegal session”. There had previously been scuffles. Even arrest was on the cards. Opposite the “Krone” Huber spoke of a coup: “This is an old man’s act of desperation.” Huber also wants to know the reason: “I had a statement of facts against Steinhart three days ago In it, he suggests to the public prosecutor that immediate measures are needed against Steinhart due to the risk of collusion – including possible arrest. “Equip4Ordi” and the consequences Huber also serves up further arguments about the “Equip4Ordi” scandal in the public prosecutor’s statement of the facts. The company for ordination supplies was founded under Steinhart’s aegis – as Huber’s predecessor in the curia of resident doctors – and was lost in a maelstrom of untraceable payments, positions for Steinhart’s confidants and lost funds. Huber had uncovered the scandal and thus made Steinhart an enemy. In any case, the public prosecutor’s office has been investigating the “Equip4Ordi” case for months. The spectrum extended to house searches. Huber is convinced in his presentation of the facts: The case is not “just” about embezzlement or breach of trust, but rather deliberate fraud with a total damage amount of 1.4 million euros. Steinhart could not be reached by telephone for comment on the allegations.
