Puy-de-Dôme: the planetarium of the Vulcania park victim of a fire

A fire broke out on Thursday February 10 in the new planetarium of the Vulcania theme park in Saint-Ours-les-Roches, near Clermont-Ferrand (Puy-de-Dôme), we learned from the management. of the park. The fire broke out inside the building around 10 a.m. before engulfing the roof. It was brought under control by around fifty firefighters and then extinguished in the middle of the afternoon without causing any injuries.

The planetarium was still under construction and was to open in May, coinciding with the 20th anniversary of the inauguration of this park dedicated to scientific culture. Currently closed to the public, Vulcania must however reopen its doors on March 30 as planned. The project, carried out by the Eiffage group under the supervision of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, represented an investment of 11 million euros. With a circular screen 22 meters in diameter, the planetarium was to be the largest in France, with a capacity of more than 300 seats. Its structure was weakened by the flames, forcing firefighters to intervene from the outside because of the risk of the building collapsing. The origin of the fire is not yet known.
