The 2022 World Cup is finally starting! The anticipation of the tournament is great, especially among children. The World Cup in Qatar is also criticized for very different reasons. Three examples with which you can counter children’s questions.

1. Qatar and football – That doesn’t go together

  • Football is not really popular in Qatar. The assumption is that Qatar is only hosting the games because the country can earn a lot of money with the 2022 World Cup.
  • Qatar is way too hot in the summer months. That’s why the games are only now taking place in winter – during which temperatures are still very high.
  • Many stadiums that were built especially for the 2022 World Cup will no longer be used after the tournament – and will therefore be dismantled again.

2. Dealing with the workers

3. Human rights in Qatar

In the country of the 2022 World Cup, not everyone has equal rights:

A lot of people think a World Cup shouldn’t be held in a country where there is so much to criticize. Others hope that the situation in Qatar could even improve as a result of the World Cup – now that people from all over the world have become aware of the problems in the country.
