(Boursier.com) — Qualcomm andIridium entered into an agreement to bring satellite connectivity to next-generation premium Android smartphones; Garmin is pleased to collaborate on support for emergency messaging. Snapdragon Satellite is the world’s first satellite solution capable of supporting two-way messaging for high-end smartphones and beyond. This market-leading solution provides global pole-to-pole coverage, enabling messages to be sent globally to devices other than smartphones. This is a major development for a whole range of communications, such as recreation in remote, rural and offshore locations, as well as emergencies.

Qualcomm Powers Solution with Snapdragon 5G Modem-RF Systems and worked in conjunction with global satellite communications company Iridium, which provides support with the fully operational Iridium satellite constellation.

During the first half of 2023, technology company Garmin will collaborate on support for emergency messaging via the Snapdragon satellite, which will initially launch on next-generation smartphones in select regions. As the ecosystem grows, it will create additional opportunities for innovation, with OEMs and developers using satellite connectivity to differentiate their offerings and unique branded services…
