Qualcomm launches new platform to unify all of its AI offerings

Qualcomm unveiled this Wednesday an extension of its runtime offer for artificial intelligence developers. Called the Qualcomm AI Stack portfolio, it must, according to the American giant, meet the “unique needs of AI (artificial intelligence) for each sector of activity” served by Qualcomm chips, particularly in the markets for smartphones, IoT (internet of things) or automotive.

Qualcomm’s platform will integrate all existing tools, such as the company’s neural processing SDK, while allowing developers to “leverage that same work into every product.”

“We are extending a single technology roadmap to all our different business areas,” said Ziad Asghar, vice president of product management at Qualcomm, during a press briefing. “The stage function here is being able to take your work and carry it through these different business lines. The software stack will focus on energy efficiency and more specifically on workload quantification or code portability across the various markets operated by Qualcomm and its customers.

Increased efficiency

When it comes to efficiency, “the performance per watt we’re showing is just outstanding in terms of the amount of work we can do for a given amount of power,” Qualcomm argues. “Even for the same hardware, as we optimize the software, we’re able to get 30-40% better performance in some cases. »

According to Ziad Asghar, the ability to manage many contexts will be the main virtue. “Some environments are very focused on their end markets – on the automobile or the cloud,” notes the manager. For the latter, it’s very simple: it is simply “the best experience in its category for what you can get from Qualcomm hardware”.

“It’s about delivering the most optimized and best experience from an efficiency and accuracy perspective, and we think that’s a huge difference for us and our partners. »
