World champion Max Verstappen is denied pole position in Mexico by the Ferrari duo Charles Leclerc/Carlos Sainz.

Somewhat surprisingly, on Sunday at the Mexican GP it will not be Max Verstappen in the Red Bull, but Charles Leclerc in the Ferrari who will start the race from position 1. The Monegasque secured pole position at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez, 0.067 seconds ahead of his teammate Carlos Sainz. Verstappen only remained third behind the Spaniard.

Alfa Romeo duo in the top 10

The Alfa Romeo team created a promising starting position for the fourth-to-last race of the season, placing both cars in the top 10 on the starting grid for the second time this season. The Finn Valtteri Bottas and the Chinese Guanyu Zhou take starting positions 9 and 10 respectively. The only time the Hinwil racing team was even better was in Hungary in July, when Zhou and Bottas finished fifth and seventh in qualifying.
