Quality report – “Electric cars have more defects than combustion engines”

E-cars are actually characterized by reduced complexity. But according to the latest JD Power study, their error rates are significantly higher than those of internal combustion engine cars.

In the USA, electric cars have greater quality defects than vehicles with internal combustion engines. According to the most recent edition of the annual quality study by the US market research company JD Power, the overall level of problems has increased by eleven percent to 180 problems per vehicle compared to the previous year. While owners of combustion engine models complain about 175 problems per vehicle on average it is 240 for electric cars. There are clear differences between electric car brands. With 328 problems per car, Polestar is well behind Tesla with 226 problems per vehicle. The Buick (139), Dodge (143) and Chevrolet (147) brands have particularly low rates. They are followed by Genesis and Kia (156) and Lexus (157). Taillights are Maserati (255), Volvo (265) and Polestar (328). Incidentally, the most common reason for the registered vehicle problems are infotainment systems.
