Quatennens case: Nupes deputies no longer wish to sit with the convicted deputy

Sentenced to a four-month suspended sentence and a fine of 2,000 euros for violence against his wife, the former number two of rebellious France, Adrien Quatennens, now wants to turn the page and refuses to resign. A decision contested by his colleagues from Nupes who do not wish to see their image associated with a man guilty of domestic violence.

Despite his conviction, Adrien Quatennens intends to turn the page. In any case, this is what he explained at length in an interview granted to The voice of the North this Tuesday. He denounces a “media lynching”, while excluding resigning from his post as deputy. The former number two of rebellious France was given a four-month suspended sentence for violence against his wife, in particular for a slap. He was also expelled for four months from the LFI group in the National Assembly, according to a party statement. And Nupes, the left alliance in the hemicycle, is more than ever divided on his case.

“We could leave Nupes”

Indeed, some socialists, ecologists and communists no longer wish to sit with Adrien Quatennens. Environmentalists are outright calling for his resignation and things will probably not be more peaceful in four months. A socialist warns: “If Adrien comes back, we could leave Nupes”. In reality, no left-wing MP wants to see his image associated with that of a man guilty of domestic violence, at a time when the debate on violence against women is becoming central.

So will rebellious France take the risk of causing the union of the left to implode to integrate the colt of Jean-Luc Mélenchon? Nothing is less sure. Because internally too, voices are being raised to demand his permanent removal from the parliamentary group. Adrien Quatennens also accused Beauvau of orchestrating his conviction. An inadmissible charge for the Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin, who announced his intention to file a complaint.
