In a TV show for the Queen, Queen Camilla remembers the monarch. She will never forget her “wonderful blue eyes”.

In a new BBC programme Queen Camilla (75) pays tribute to the late Queen Elizabeth II (1926-2022). The king’s wife remembers her “wonderful blue eyes” and her “unforgettable smile”, as she says in a previously published excerpt.

“I’ll never forget that smile”

“I’m 75 now and I can’t remember before the Queen, she was always there,” explains Camilla, who was just four when Elizabeth II ascended the throne in 1952. “She’s always been part of our lives.” When the Queen laughed, “her beautiful blue eyes would have made her whole face light up,” she recalled. “I will never forget that smile.”

Camilla also says in the interview how impressive she finds it that her mother-in-law created her own role in her “difficult position” as the “only woman” in a male-dominated world. “There were no female prime ministers or female presidents then. She was the only one.”

Queen Camilla’s BBC tribute will be broadcast in the UK on Sunday evening (18 September) just before a nationwide minute’s silence at 8pm local time.
