When King Charles is to be crowned on May 6, 2023, his wife Queen Camilla will also be crowned. On this extraordinary occasion, the royal has expressed a wish that could allow Prince Harry, who is not necessarily well-disposed towards her, to play a role during the historic ceremony.

The Sussexes have still not officially confirmed their attendance for the coronation of King Charles, 74, in May. Prince Harry, 38, and Duchess Meghan, 41, seem to have stomach ache at the thought of meeting the royal family – for a variety of reasons. In particular, the massive attacks by the youngest son of the monarch in his memoirs against his brother and stepmother are likely to have hardened the fronts behind the scenes. But Queen Camilla, 75, of all people, with an extraordinary request for her own coronation ceremony, makes it easier for her stepson to jump over his shadow and be there at the historic moment without losing face.

Queen Camilla: Did she clear the way for Prince Harry?

Camilla’s wish initially caused a stir, but was quickly taken for granted in the palace: The Queen breaks with tradition and gives four of her five grandchildren a task that previously only royal title holders were allowed to perform at a coronation. This very personal request could also allow Harry a role in the ceremony. “I can tell you that a very touching and popular decision by Queen Camilla got the ball rolling,” historian Gareth Russell told US Weekly’s Royally Us podcast. Background: “Previous royal consorts who have been crowned have had the canopy held over them at the consecration by four duchesses. She has said that she doesn’t want four duchesses, but that her four grandchildren should carry the canopy over her, which one nice gesture.”

With this matter of the heart, she also clears the way for her stepson. The palace could be at a loss if it allowed the Queen’s non-royal grandchildren to be included but barred the Duke of Sussex from official duties, Russell says. “Obviously, not only are Queen Camilla’s grandchildren not working royals, they have never been working royals. So if a place can be found for them, it will be very difficult for the palace to explain why no role can be found for Prince Harry could.”

The Sussexes make it exciting

However, it is uncertain whether this surprising turn of events could actually be the decisive factor for the king’s son and his wife to be present at the coronation of Charles and Camilla. According to information from “OK” magazine, the two would like to appear after the ceremony alongside Charles and Camilla on the balcony of Buckingham Palace. In addition, Harry’s demand for an apology to Meghan for the insults suffered in recent years and his request for a clarifying conversation are still in the room.

In the meantime, the historical event in Westminster Abbey is getting closer and the palace must be able to tie down the meticulous process in the foreseeable future. Only when the Sussexes are sitting in the pews should a general sigh of relief be heard. Until then, the prospect of peace within the royal family remains an unpredictable nail-biter.
