Queen Charlotte – A Bridgerton Story: Will the Queen Die in the Netflix Series?

QUEEN CHARLOTTE: A BRIDGERTON STORY

“Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story” is about the turbulent history of Queen Charlotte. The ruler can also be seen in the Netflix series “Bridgerton”. But there is reason to believe that the queen will soon die.

  • Queen Charlotte rules the world of Bridgerton and has for many years, as revealed in the spin-off Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story.
  • The queen also appears in the novel based on the hit Netflix series, although not as strongly as in the series.
  • The British monarch dies in 1818, at the same time that Benedict finds his love in the third novel. Does that mean the queen will die in the show’s third season as well?

Queen Charlotte is the celebrated ruler of the Kingdom of Great Britain in the Netflix series “Bridgerton”. But unlike many other characters on the show, Charlotte was a real person.

In real life, the queen’s name was Sophie Charlotte zu Mecklenburg-Strelitz, and she was a young German princess who was married at the age of 17 to King George III of England. In the “Bridgerton” spin-off “Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story” the love story of the royal couple is told.

However, their love was shaken by many strokes of fate. From a young age, the king suffered from a mysterious illness that made life together almost impossible for the couple.

The king showed the first symptoms shortly after marrying his wife Charlotte. This initially prevented him from governing sensibly, but with the help of his wife he was able to contain his illness. Under his rule, one of the most important events in history took place, the American War of Independence.

The series has not shown this yet. However, it is quite possible that Netflix could record the royal couple’s fight against the American rebels in a second season of “Queen Charlotte”.

In “Bridgerton” the disease has George in its grip again. The series shows us its effects on the king’s mental state. In addition to his already weakened mind, dementia aggravated his old age.

From then on, his wife and their children took over his affairs of state. After 57 years as regent, Queen Charlotte died two years before her husband, in 1818 at the age of 74. The Queen’s death is also discussed in the novel of the “Bridgerton” series.

In the 4th volume, which takes place in 1824, she has been dead for six years. With Season 3 set to be based on this book, the Queen’s future looks bleak. But there is a small glimmer of hope, because “Bridgerton” doesn’t quite stick to the order of the books and also doesn’t follow the chronological sequence of the story.

The storyline of the books is not chronological. Daphne is indeed the first of the siblings to marry in 1813, but her little sister Francesca, whose story is told in the 6th volume of the novels, marries before Eloise, who finds happiness in the 5th volume.

Bridgerton Timeline

The series brings those timelines even closer together, bringing the Bridgertons’ marriages closer together as well. So Eloise will probably not only marry when she is 29, but at a similar age to her sisters.

This shift in timeline could have saved Queen Charlotte’s life. Since she even got her own spin-off, showrunner Shonda Rhimes seems to have taken a liking to the Queen’s character. While “killing your darlings” is a common way to add emotion to a story’s plot, this practice would be unlikely on a show like Bridgerton.

Thus, all of the Bridgerton children could be married before 1818 and Queen Charlotte could see all the tribulations of those marriages. We will find out in the coming seasons of “Bridgerton” whether this will actually happen.
