There are difficult months behind Queen Elizabeth: the death of her husband, missed appointments due to illness and a rather isolated year due to the pandemic. The monarch should long for Christmas with her family all the more.

For Queen Elizabeth, 95, Christmas in 2021 will be unfamiliar. After 73 years it will be the first festival without Prince Philip, † 99, at her side. It is only one of the reasons why this year’s family reunion in Sandringham should be particularly important for the monarch. As a palace insider told “Mirror”, the Queen “wants to be surrounded by loved ones”.

Queen Elizabeth wants to receive the family in Sandringham

Last year, the monarch’s beloved tradition had to be canceled due to the coronary pandemic. The royals split up and stayed among themselves. Queen Elizabeth retired to Windsor Castle alone with Philip. After more than 30 years, the British royal family did not come to their country estate in Sandringham to spend the holidays. Prince Charles, 72, and Duchess Camilla, 74, spent the days at Highgrove instead. Prince Harry, 36, had already emigrated to the USA by this time and was enjoying a quiet Christmas party with Duchess Meghan, 40, and son Archie, 2.

The death of the Prince Consort and the failure of the previous Christmas party are said to have fueled the Queen’s desire for a big family celebration even more. “This year it is more important than ever for Her Majesty to be surrounded by loved ones,” said the palace insider. Until then, the monarch wants to be fully healthy again.

Will the Queen insist on Harry and Meghan’s visit to Sandringham?

The insider’s statement comes just a few days after the Queen had to spend another night in the hospital for the first time in over eight years and Royal Experts expressed great concern about the regent. As the anonymous source asserts, the 95-year-old is very optimistic that she will be fit enough for a Christmas party with all her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren in the next few weeks. The monarch should see the family reunion and the reflective Christmas season as the perfect remedy to end the difficult year.

It is not yet known whether Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan will also take part in the celebrations in England. Certainly Queen Elizabeth would like a visit: Not only that she has not seen Prince Harry for several months – her great-granddaughter Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor, 5 months, could not even get to know her at times.
