Queen Elizabeth II: bitter tears in the palace

Monarch, long-term head of state, cheered queen – and grieving daughter: Queen Elizabeth II cries bitter tears today. February 6 is the saddest day of the year for the Queen. Her beloved father died 68 years ago today.

Traditional memory of King George VI.

Yes, February 6 is an anniversary day for Queen Elizabeth II because on February 6, 1952 she officially became Queen. However, grief will prevail for the monarch, because she only ascended the throne because her beloved father – King George VI. – died early in the morning on February 6, 1952.

King George VI had not lived a healthy life, was a chain smoker and suffered from numerous previous illnesses, including lung cancer. A few weeks before his death, he had sent daughter Elizabeth on a trip around the world as representative of the royal family. Eventually, he died of arterial thrombosis at the age of 56. His widow, later known as Queen Mum, survived him by more than 50 years and died in 2002 at the age of 101.

Queen was very close to her father

Mourning for her father traditionally occupies a special place on the calendar for Queen Elizabeth II. She always extends her Christmas break at the Sandringham manor until February 6th, even the Christmas decorations hang so long and the tree is decorated.

And so we can assume that Queen Elizabeth II will also remember her beloved father today and maybe shed a tear or two. We wish her much strength in this difficult hour.
