Queen Elizabeth II will attend the opening ceremony of the Scottish Parliament, at which “local heroes” will be heard.

Queen Elizabeth II (95) will attend the opening ceremony of the Scottish Parliament on October 2nd. As confirmed on Parliament’s website, Heir to the throne Prince Charles (72) and his wife Camilla (74) will accompany the Queen. The opening ceremony is a tradition that was first introduced in 1999.

Heroes in the fight against the pandemic

In this year’s ceremony “local heroes” from all over Scotland are to be honored. This refers to people who made an important contribution in their communities or at national level during the corona pandemic.

It is currently not known how this honor will take place. It is also open whether Queen Elizabeth II will play an active role in this. Details about the program, guests and artists who are to perform will follow in the coming weeks.

Parliament launched a campaign in June to find these “local heroes”. The elect will be invited to attend the ceremony in person or digitally.
