The Queen will celebrate Christmas differently this year: without the family and in Windsor. The castle is already festively decorated.

Queen Elizabeth II (94) and Prince Philip (99) spend Christmas this year at Windsor Castle for once. And it's already festive there. The residence was decorated with numerous lights, festive garlands and Christmas trees. Part of the site is also open to visitors, but the Queen's private apartments are not open to visitors.

The "Royal Collection Trust" is showing a video on its website showing the castle in Windsor, shining for Christmas. In addition to baubles, small crowns hang on the Christmas tree in St. George's Hall as jewelry. On Instagram you can also see how an imposing tree is felled and brought to Windsor Castle, where it shines, decorated with hundreds of pendants and lights.

Christmas under Corona conditions

Elizabeth II and Prince Philip will be spending Christmas at Windsor Castle instead of their Sandringham country estate in Norfolk for the first time in decades because of the coronavirus pandemic. And that without her family, as a spokeswoman for Buckingham Palace announced according to British media reports: "After considering all the appropriate recommendations, the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh have decided that they will spend Christmas this year in Windsor in peace." There the royal couple lives in isolation to protect themselves from the virus. The Queen has only attended a few public appointments since the outbreak of the pandemic.

The royal family spent many Christmases at Windsor Castle when the Queen's children – Prince Charles, 72, Princess Anne, 70, Prince Andrew (60) and Prince Edward, 56 – were young. The Royal Family has traditionally celebrated Christmas and New Years in Sandringham since the 1980s.
