Queen Elizabeth II: monarch opens drive-in theater on Sandringham estate

Film evenings in a royal setting: Queen Elizabeth II makes it possible. A drive-in theater is about to open at her country estate in Sandringham.

Queen Elizabeth II (94) opens the gates of her private estate in Sandringham to provide variety and entertainment in times of the corona pandemic. On September 25th, a new drive-in cinema will be launched in the royal landscaped park with the First World War drama "1917". The program includes the films "Rocketman", "Toy Story", "The Greatest Showman", "Bohemian Rhapsody", "Grease" and "A Star Is Born". The open-air offer is initially set for three days.

If you want to enjoy a film evening in a royal setting, you have to purchase the corresponding ticket online. The parking space for the car costs 32.50 British pounds (around 38 euros). For 7.50 pounds on top there are also sun loungers, a table, popcorn and a separate area on the side of the vehicle. Food trucks and beverage suppliers provide on-site catering.

Income goes to the royal family

The corona pandemic also meant losses for the British royal family. The doors to their castles, which are particularly popular with tourists in the summer months, remained closed for several months. The revenue from drive-in ticket sales is likely to go straight to the royal coffers as the property is privately owned by Queen Elizabeth II and is not part of the Crown Estate.
