Jill Biden chatted about her last meeting with Queen Elizabeth II. The monarch is said to have “reprimanded” Joe Biden over tea.
Jill Biden (72) has spoken out loud. For a new book, she is said to have revealed details about her visit to Queen Elizabeth II (1926-2022) at Windsor Castle. The First Lady and US President Joe Biden (81) met for a private appointment with the British monarch during their visit to Great Britain in 2021. It was the Bidens’ last meeting with the Queen: a year later, on September 8, 2022, Elizabeth II died at Balmoral Castle at the age of 96.
For his new book “The Making of a King: King Charles III and the Modern Monarchy” (from January 18th), royal expert Robert Hardman apparently spoke to Jill Biden about their afternoon tea in Windsor. This emerges from an excerpt, which “People” magazine published.
The Queen to the President: “You sit down”
For the Bidens, tea with the Queen at Windsor Castle the year before her death was “a valuable memory,” Hardman writes in his book. Jill Biden recalled how the US President tried to help the Queen, but she refused. The Bidens went to their private living quarters at Windsor Castle with the Queen. “And I loved her sense of independence,” Biden said, according to the report. “She had a big teapot. And Joe said to her, ‘Here, let me help you.’ The Queen, however, had been quite insistent. ‘No, no, no. You sit down,’ she told the President. ‘I will serve you.'”
The three then talked about a variety of topics: “Here she was with this big teapot and pouring tea and we had the best time because she was so curious,” Biden explained in the book, according to “People.”
The Bidens came to the Queen’s state funeral in London in September 2022. Jill Biden says of the late monarch: “We all grew up with the Queen. She was such a big part of our lives. She was just always there and you had the feeling that she would always be – a really beautiful, spectacular, amazing woman.”
