Queen Elizabeth II surprisingly appeared in public. The monarch seems to have enjoyed the appointment.

Queen Elizabeth II (94) seemed to be enjoying her first official appearance this year. The monarch made a surprise visit to the Air Forces Memorial in Runnymede, Surrey to mark the 100th birthday of the Royal Australian Air Force. In the past few weeks she had spoken out on video calls and on TV, but she had not been seen publicly since December. At that time, she welcomed her grandson Prince William (38) and his wife Duchess Kate (39) with a public appearance at Windsor Castle. The last time she presented herself outside the castle was in November.

For her first public date this year, the Queen wore a spring-like ensemble of a light green coat and matching hat with floral decorations. The 94-year-old did not put on mouth and nose protection at the appointment outdoors. In the past few months, the monarch had very few appointments outside of a royal residence. Elizabeth II and her husband Prince Philip (99) went into corona isolation at Windsor Castle at the beginning of the pandemic in spring 2020. Prince Philip is currently recovering from a heart procedure, having been in hospital for four weeks before being discharged in mid-March.
