Queen Elizabeth II: The monarch shows up in London

Queen Elizabeth II left her Corona quarters at Windsor Castle for a visit to Westminster Abbey.

Shortly before the lockdown, many Britons were on the road again, and Queen Elizabeth II (94) also experienced the resulting traffic chaos in London on Wednesday. Pictures published by the Daily Mail show the monarch in the back seat of her car while the driver tried to avoid the traffic jam. The Queen is said to have just been on her way back to Windsor after attending an event in London.

Elizabeth II had come to London from Windsor Castle for an unannounced visit to Westminster Abbey, according to the report. There she is said to have participated in a memorial event that was brought forward by a few days due to the lockdown.

Quarantined with Prince Philip

Since the beginning of the Corona crisis in March, the Queen has only made a few appearances and will probably not be seen much in public in the coming weeks. The 94-year-old monarch isolates herself at Windsor Castle with her husband Prince Philip (99). The royal couple also spent the first lockdown in spring and the subsequent time there together. They lived in their isolated household for a full four months before the six-week summer vacation in Scotland came up. Elizabeth II and Prince Philip are now spending their 73rd wedding anniversary together in quarantine on November 20. In 1947 the couple tied the knot at Westminster Abbey.
