LONDON, June 5 (Reuters) – Queen Elizabeth II said on Sunday she was “humbly and deeply touched” by the number of people who came to celebrate her Platinum Jubil, following four days of festivities marking her 70th birthday. on the British throne.

Tens of thousands of people took part in parties, parades and other events organized in honor of the 96-year-old monarch during these four days.

Millions more watched the pop music concert on Saturday night outside Buckingham Palace where the Crown Prince, Prince Charles, paid tribute to his mother.

In an address to the nation, Queen Elizabeth II thanked the public for their support.

“When it comes to knowing how to celebrate 70 years of reign, there is no blueprint. It really is a first. But I was humbled and deeply touched that so many people descended on the street to celebrate my Platinum Jubil,” she said in a statement.

The Queen herself did not attend a number of events due to mobility issues, but she was able to wave to the cheering crowd from the balcony of Buckingham Palace as the celebrations closed on Sunday.

“Even though I was unable to attend all of the events in person, my heart was with you all, and I remain committed to serving you to the best of my ability, with the support of my family,” she added.
