For little Princess Charlotte, the funeral of the Queen, her great-grandmother, is the first public funeral service she attends. On this occasion, she shows up with a special piece of jewelery that has a touching story.

For the state funeral of Queen Elizabeth († 96), guests from all over the world traveled to London to mourn their head with the Royal Family. Little Princess Charlotte, 7, also pays tribute to the late monarch – with a special piece of jewelry.

It is the first public funeral to be attended by Prince George, 9, and Princess Charlotte. For this special occasion, Princess Charlotte is wearing an important piece of jewelery for the first time: A silver brooch in the shape of a horseshoe, which is a gift from Queen Elizabeth, is attached to her black, buttoned-up coat. The filigree brooch belonged to her mother, Queen Mother, before Queen Elizabeth II, who was photographed wearing it nearly 100 years ago! The wife of Queen Elizabeth’s father, King George VI, who died in 2002, then bequeathed the piece of jewelry to her horse-loving eldest daughter, and now it is owned by little Charlotte.

Queen Mum (1900 - 2002) is seen in pictures from 1929 wearing the brooch that is now on Princess Charlotte's coat.

The narrow-brimmed hat with black bow is by milliner Jane Taylor. Charlotte wears a black coat from the Spanish label Ancar, black wool tights and black leather shoes.

Duchess Catherine wears pearls that Diana wore

Of course, other members of the Royal Family also honor the late Queen with meaningful pieces of jewelry: the four-strand pearl choker worn by Duchess Catherine is a gift from the Japanese government to the Queen in the 1970s. Kate previously wore it to Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip’s 70th wedding anniversary celebrations and Philip’s funeral last year. The Queen had also lent the piece of jewelery to Princess Diana († 36) for a state banquet in the 80s.

Kate wears dangling pearl earrings that have long been part of the Queen’s jewelry collection. The “Bahrain Pearl Drop” earrings consist of a round diamond stud to which hangs another baguette-cut diamond, followed by a single pearl, a wedding gift from the Hakim of Bahrain, in an arrangement typical of the 1940s .

She’s wearing a fitted Alexander McQueen coat dress, probably a custom order. The flared pleated skirt and V-neckline are reminiscent of the white coat dress she wore to the Queen’s Jubilee just a few months ago. She combines this with a black hat with bow details and a net veil.
