For Queen Elizabeth, Christmas 2021 will be the first festival in 73 years without her husband Prince Philip. But not only will her beloved husband be missing: the monarch will also have to do without four loyal employees at her country estate in Sandringham.

Queen Elizabeth, 95, faces an unfamiliar – perhaps even lonely – winter time. As “Mail on Sunday” reports, there have been several layoffs within the palace walls in the past few weeks, all of them submitted by long-term employees who are now referred to as “friends” of the Queen. But why do employees decide to leave? There is more to this, according to an anonymous source.

Queen Elizabeth: Will her employees leave Sandringham House due to Prince Philip’s death?

As the insider claims, the death of Prince Philip, † 99, should have played a central role in the decisions. “After the Duke’s death, there is a feeling of the end of an era,” said the palace source. In addition to the three dismissals that are said to have been submitted in the last eight weeks, one employee has retired after 32 years.

It would be important, especially this year, that Queen Elizabeth has trusted people around her in Sandringham. Last year, Christmas, which the British royal family traditionally spends in the country estate three hours from London, was canceled. The corona pandemic ruined a large family celebration. Now, after more than seven decades, the monarch will celebrate without her husband. Loyal employees would have been a gentle consolation and would have given the already unfamiliar party a little routine.

Palast must quickly fill the missing positions

In addition to the personal loss that the monarch experiences from the departure of her four palace courtiers, there is also the rational aspect: Christmas is the “busiest time of the year” in Sandringham. The four positions should therefore be filled immediately.

Ten positions are currently advertised on the palace’s official website (as of November 15, 2021), including a domestic help, the position of a lock servant and a position in the kitchen team. “As you’d expect, the standards here are exceptionally high and it’s busy every day, so you have to be an ambitious and skilled chef,” said the last job posting.

Do the royals get together for Christmas?

So far it is not known how the British royal family will celebrate Christmas or whether the pandemic will ensure a different course this year. However, it is to be expected that most of the members of the Royal Family will spend Christmas in Sandringham with the Queen.

Prince Harry

Whether Prince Harry, 37, and Duchess Meghan, 40, are traveling to England to introduce their youngest great-granddaughter Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor, 5 months, to the Queen and to spend the holidays with the family has not yet been officially communicated. According to an anonymous source, the monarch should hope so.
