King Felipe, 56, and Queen Letizia of Spain, 51, celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary with a series of new beautiful photos showing the couple together with their two daughters Princess Leonor, 18, and Princess Sofía, 17. Felipe and Letizia could celebrate their love anniversary next weekend with a romantic trip – despite upcoming appointments.

Queen Letizia + King Felipe: Plans for the weekend after their 20th wedding anniversary revealed

On Wednesday, May 22, 2024, the day of their “porcelain wedding,” Felipe and Letizia had kept their calendars free so that they could enjoy a little time together without any royal obligations. According to the Spanish magazine “Semana,” it is not known whether the royal couple actually planned anything special that day, such as visiting a restaurant or a film screening. Felipe and Letizia preferred to keep it confidential. What is certain, however, is that they could catch up on everything this weekend and celebrate their happiness together with a little trip to Asturias. While Felipe and Letizia spent the first few days of their honeymoon in Spain in May 2004 in Cuenca and San Sebastián before traveling to Jordan, this time they are likely to spend the first few days after their 20th wedding anniversary in Asturias, Letizia’s home country.

The couple could combine work with pleasure

King Felipe’s diary shows that the regent will attend an event organized by the Ministry of Defense on Friday, May 24. This is the naval show, an exhibition including an air parade on the Asturian coast. It will take place in a symbolic location: the beach of San Lorenzo in Gijón. Afterwards, on Saturday, May 25, the Spanish Armed Forces Day will be celebrated in Oviedo. “Semana” can well imagine that Felipe and Letizia will use the dates in Asturias to spend a little private time in Asturias alongside their obligations and enjoy the rest of the weekend together in Letizia’s homeland. They could visit a restaurant serving regional cuisine for a romantic dinner or meet with relatives of Queen Letizia.

The royal family’s ties to Asturias are close, especially since Letizia is from there. Felipe and Letizia therefore regularly visit the region in northwestern Spain. Queen Letizia was even in her hometown of Oviedo on May 14, where she led the celebrations for the 160th anniversary of the Red Cross.
