Bavaria’s Prime Minister Markus Söder has canceled a state banquet with Queen Margrethe II.

Queen Margrethe II of Denmark (81) is currently visiting Germany. The monarch is expected in Munich on Friday. As it became known on November 11th, a planned state banquet will not take place due to the current corona situation. “It doesn’t fit the time”, the State Chancellery said, as reported by the “Bild” newspaper.

However, the Bavarian Prime Minister Markus Söder (54) will welcome Margrethe II around noon in the royal building yard of the Munich residence. According to a press release, the Tölzer Knabenchor, the honor company of the Bavarian Mountain Rifles and a delegation of the Bavarian costume associations will be positioned along a red carpet to pay their respects to the monarch. Thereupon Queen Margrethe II will enter herself in the guest book of the Bavarian State Government.

On Wednesday Angela Merkel (67) had the Danish Queen and Crown Prince Frederik (53) received at the Federal Chancellery. The Danish royals had previously paid a visit to Bellevue Palace and met Frank-Walter Steinmeier (65). At a state banquet in honor of the monarch, the Federal President highlighted the friendship between the two countries.
