Sad news from the Danish royal family: Princess Ilona zu Schaumburg-Lippe has died at the age of 83.
The Danish royals mourn Princess Ilona zu Schaumburg-Lippe: the noblewoman died at the age of 83. This was announced by her husband, Prince Wilhelm zu Schaumburg-Lippe.
Princess Ilona of Schaumburg-Lippe is dead
Prince Wilhelm published an obituary in the Danish newspaper “Berlingske”, which shows that Princess Ilona zu Schaumburg-Lippe died on December 30, 2023. Princess Ilona will be buried at Glesborg Church on January 6, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. local time.
Prince Wilhelm is the brother of Waldemar von Schaumburg-Lippe, †79, who died in 2020. The widower is also the great-grandson of King Frederik VIII and a cousin of Queen Margrethe, 83, which is why he maintains a close relationship with the Danish royal family. In recent years he has taken part in several major celebrations and honors of the royal family together with Princess Ilona. The Danish regent was also a guest at the wedding of Ilona and Wilhelm’s son Christian Prinz zu Schaumburg-Lippe. In 2009 he gave his partner Lena Giese his vows at a church wedding at Glücksburg Castle in Schleswig-Holstein. In 2022, Wilhelm and his wife took part in the monarch’s 50th anniversary on the throne.

Queen Margrethe, who will abdicate on January 14, 2024, as well as Prince Frederik, 55, and other members of the Danish royal family are likely to be moved by the sad news of Princess Ilona’s death.
