Queen Margrethe should be something to think about, voices can be heard in Denmark. What do you mean? King Philippe and Queen Mathilde of Belgium take a completely surprising path: the monarch couple opens the gates for refugees from the war zone of Ukraine. A consideration that also appeals to the Danes.

Queen Margrethe, 81, actually has a lot of space, according to the Danish royal family expert Jacob Heinel. So why not King Philippe, 61, and Queen Mathilde of Belgium, 49, do the same and offer protection and shelter to people who have fled from Ukraine? They make two of their 70 royal buildings available for shelter. The journalist thinks it is an initiative that the Danish royal family could well and willingly join.

Queen Margrethe: She would have housing for refugees on offer

He remains realistic: “I’m not talking about the queen accommodating a Ukrainian family next to her bedroom. But there are many other options. Sorgenfri Castle is more or less deserted. Also the Trend hunting lodge or the ski hut of the crown prince couple in Verbier is a possibility,” he writes in the BT newspaper.

In any case, among the population, all signs are currently pointing to unlimited solidarity. On March 17, 2022, the Danish Minister for Integration, Mattias Tesfaye, 40, pledged his compatriots to a historic challenge: “We are facing potentially the largest immigration of people since the Second World War. At the moment, the government is planning around 20,000 Ukrainians in Denmark, of course the number can increase significantly.”

Large donations from Prince Frederik, Princess Mary and the Queen

Jacob Heinel believes that Danish society as a whole has a duty. From the very top to the very bottom. It would be a unique opportunity for the royal family to help, precisely because they had the space. Meanwhile, the queen and her offspring are not idle. Both Margrethe and Princess Mary, 50, and Prince Frederik, 53, are said to have already donated large sums.

Monarch promises unlimited solidarity and help

The fate of the people in Ukraine by no means leaves the monarch indifferent. This is shown by her rather depressed official statement, which she published a few days ago: “Every day we follow the images of the destruction and injustices of the war. The sad images of children and women who have to say goodbye to their fathers, brothers and husbands , who are soldiers fighting for Ukraine. But also the heroic images of the strong Ukrainian youth, fighting for their right to freedom and now defending their own lives. For us Danes, the whole situation has left an indelible mark.”

Her last sentences promise complete support for those affected and helpers: “We feel for the Ukrainian population and support everyone who provides emergency aid and works to save human lives. May this senseless war come to an end as soon as possible.”

Whether she will consider Jacob Heinel’s suggestions remains to be seen. However, she has already proven that she has a big heart for the many people in need.
