The brother of Sweden's Queen Silvia is dead. Walther Sommerlath died on October 23 at the age of 86, the palace announced.
Great mourning for the Swedish royal family. Silvia of Sweden has lost her older brother. Walther Sommerlath died on October 23rd at the age of 86, as the palace officially announced. The brother of the Swedish monarch was therefore ill and fell asleep peacefully in the Karolinska University Hospital in Huddinge. The palace did not provide any further details.
Queen Silvia said of her loss: "I and my family are very sad and miss my brother Walther." Born in Germany, she is the youngest of four children. In 2006 her brother Jörg, the youngest of the three brothers, died. He had cancer. Her oldest brother, Ralf (born 1921), lives in her hometown Heidelberg.
