Queen Silvia of Sweden will be 78 years old on December 23rd. The palace published a new portrait for the occasion.

Shortly before Christmas, Queen Silvia of Sweden celebrates her birthday: The monarch will be 78 years old on December 23rd. To mark the occasion, the Swedish Royal Palace has published a new portrait of Silvia. It can be seen in a checked bouclé jacket in shades of orange and blue with a white blouse. Subtle make-up as well as pearl earrings and chains complete their look. She has styled her hair in light waves.

21 gun salutes for the Queen’s birthday

Like it on the Website of the Swedish royal family means, Queen Silvia’s birthday is a public flag day. In her honor, the Swedish armed forces in Stockholm, Boden, Härnösand, Karlskrona and Gothenburg each fire 21 gun salutes.

Queen Silvia was born as Silvia Sommerlath in Heidelberg in 1943. As a hostess at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich, she met her future husband, King Carl XVI. Gustaf of Sweden (75). The two married in Stockholm in 1976. A year later, the two became parents for the first time: Crown Princess Victoria (44) was born, followed by her siblings Prince Carl Philip (42) and Princess Madeleine (39). Silvia already has eight grandchildren.
