Queen Silvia + Princess Sofia: Touching moment of getting to know each other at the castle

In the summer of 2010, Prince Carl Philip was so sure of his love for Sofia that he introduced her to his parents. Today’s princess shares a touching moment of getting to know Queen Silvia, which she will probably never forget.

On June 27, 2014, six years after they first met, Sweden’s Prince Carl Philip, 44, officially announced his engagement to then-Sofia Kristina Hellqvist and now Princess Sofia, 38. This special day, on which the commoner from the province of Dalarna beamed from ear to ear in a bright red sheath dress, is now nine years ago. But the magic of their love can still be felt – a magic that also surrounds the meeting of Sofia and Queen Silvia, 79, to this day. A review.

Princess Sofia is ‘the best woman in the world’ according to Carl Philip

“An incredibly great woman, I’m the happiest. She’s modest, down-to-earth, smart, intelligent and ambitious. In my eyes, she’s the best woman in the world,” Prince Carl Philip enthused about his Sofia after the engagement.

Four years earlier, in the midst of a summer of love, Carl Philip realized she was the one he wanted to be with forever. He made up his mind and introduced the then 25-year-old model to his parents, King Carl Gustaf, 77, and Queen Silvia.

Queen Silvia: A toiletry bag and a hug for Sofia

Sofia has a very special moment in common with Silvia, which the later princess remembered at the end of 2014 in the SVT documentary “Aaret med Kungafamiljen” (“The Year with the Royal Family”). She said with a smile:

It was a wonderful, beautiful experience. We had a very pleasant lunch on Solliden. I stayed the night and the Queen came up to me with a small toilet bag and hugged me. I was made to feel very welcome from day one, and nothing else.

Prince Carl Philip also had only good memories of his first meeting with Sofia’s parents in Älvdalen. In the SVT documentary, years later, he reported: “It was as light and cozy as you can imagine. It felt like I was coming home.”
