The British rock band Queen surprises with a previously unreleased song. Freddie Mercury can also be heard on “Face It Alone”.
Queen released their new single “Face It Alone” on October 13th. The ballad is sung by the late Freddie Mercury (1946-1991). He recorded them in 1988 while recording the album “The Miracle” released in 1989, as reported by the British BBC. Ultimately, however, the song did not find a place on it.
Now “Face It Alone” is to appear on a new edition of “The Miracle”. The band wrote in a statement on social media. As a result, the Collector’s Edition will be available starting November 18th and will include original recordings, demos, raw versions and six previously unreleased tracks.
Brian May thought the recording was beyond salvage
According to Brian May (75), it was a long way to the release of “Face It Alone”. “Oh no, we can’t really save that,” the band initially thought, as the Queen guitarist told BBC Radio 2. However, the sound engineers taught Queen otherwise. It was “like a kind of sewing together parts,” May explained, adding: “But it’s beautiful, it’s touching.” Drummer Roger Taylor (73) described the piece as “Freddie’s little gem”, which was a “real discovery” and “very passionate”.
Freddie Mercury sings somber lines in “Face It Alone” like “You’ll have to do it all alone in the end”. At the time of recording, the singer had already been diagnosed with HIV. However, he only made the illness public shortly before his death in 1991.
