Directed in 1995, The Day of the Beast is the second film by the enfant terrible of Spanish cinema, Álex de la Iglesia after Mutant Action (1993). The filmmaker gives us here a horrifying comedy of astonishing darkness coupled with a provocative satire of Iberian society in the 1990s.

The story follows priest Ángel Beriartúa, our cassocked John McClane! The latter decoded the Apocalypse of John, managing to determine the day of the birth of the Antichrist. According to this message, he will be born on December 25, 1995 in Madrid. Helped in his task by a heavy-metal fan, Father Beriartúa will do everything to prevent this.

This film revealed to the eyes of the world the talent and passion of Álex de la Iglesia, who will be awarded the Goya for best director for The Day of the Beast. In addition, the work received the Grand Prix at the Gérardmer Fantastic Film Festival in 1996.

Provocative and eccentric, The Day of the Beast takes us on a totally improbable trip to the heart of Madrid with a priest, a metal music fan and a reality TV host. The latter form a totally absurd alliance to thwart Satan’s plans in a Spanish capital electrified by the Christmas holidays.
