Knowing your rights is essential, including for benefit from social assistance to which we can claim. Especially since in France, billions of euros each year are not claimed from the CAF in the form of Active Solidarity Income (RSA), housing assistance or activity bonus.

According to a DREES survey conducted among a sample of 4,000 people representative of the French population residing in metropolitan France aged 18 or over, the non-use of social assistance is mainly linked to lack of information (39%). The second reason relates to procedures deemed too complex or too long (23%)followed by fear of negative consequences (18%) and the wish to get by on your own without depending on social assistance or not being considered as a recipient (16%).

This survey also shows that the non-use concerns one out of two single people for the minimum old age (Aspa). And among households eligible for active solidarity income (RSA), 34% are non-recipients on average each quarter and 20% are so taken three consecutive quarters. This DREES study also notes that the young people have less knowledge of benefits than older people, especially those aged 35-49.
