Over the seasons, “Grey’s Anatomy” has given us many memorable episodes. Among them is the last two episodes of season 6 which were the scene of a murderous shooting.
On May 20, 2010, episodes 23 and 24 of season 6 of Grey’s Anatomy aired on ABC. A major double episode that marked fans of the series forever. After dealing with the death of George O’Malley (TR Knight) in the season 5 finale, the doctors at Gray Sloan Memorial have had to face a new drama that has reshuffled the cards.
Following the death of his wife, Gary Clark (Michael O’Neill) decides to take revenge on those he deems responsible for her death and goes to the hospital with a gun. Exasperated, he quickly begins to shoot blindly, endangering the lives of several doctors at the hospital.
After several hours of wandering, he finally manages to find Derek (Patrick Dempsey) and shoots him, under the dumbfounded eyes of Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) who pushes Christina (Sandra Oh) to operate on her husband to save him.
In just two episodes of Season 6, the writers made it clear to viewers that after George’s surprise death, no doctor was truly safe.
With the snap of their fingers, the writers could decide the life or death of Derek, Meredith, Christina, Webber and everyone else. A radical change in tone that announced the color of the following seasons.
