R. Kelly: Singer misses trial because of emergency surgery

The fallen R&B star R. Kelly (52) probably missed a court hearing this week. The reason for this is said to have been an emergency operation due to a hernia. The US celebrity portal "TMZ" reports, referring to sources that are close to the singer. According to this, R. Kelly is said to have been taken to a hospital earlier this week. After the intervention, the 52-year-old, who has been in custody since 2019, is said to have been returned to prison.

How long R. Kelly had to stay in the hospital is unclear. However, he is said to have been back in his cell on Thursday evening. The hernia seems to have been bothering him for a long time. According to "TMZ", his lawyers already filed some documents in court in September 2019 that describe several medical problems that Kelly suffers from. Including numbness of one hand, which should result from the hernia.

In April and May 2020, R. Kelly is to be put on trial. He is accused of multiple rapes and child pornography. He is also said to have bribed an official in 1994 to initiate the marriage to the then underage singer Aaliyah (1979-2001) with a fake ID. The singer denies all allegations and pleads "not guilty" in court proceedings.
