Race Across America – Reached the finish line after only ten hours of sleep in eight days

Even record champion Christoph Strasser takes his hat off to him! Upper Austrian Lukas Kaufmann finished his debut at the Race Across America, covering over 4,000 kilometers and 50,000 meters of elevation, in second place. The 30-year-old reached the finish line on Thursday after eight days.

There was no really big sensation, but what Lukas Kaufmann achieved last week is still unbelievable and you have to take your hat off to him. Because at his debut at the Race Across America, the toughest and longest ultra-bike race in the world from the west to the east coast of the USA, the Kronstorf native arrived at the finish line in Atlantic City after eight days and 23 hours in second place behind the Swede Jimmy Ronn. “Bum affected” Team doctor Jürgen Minar had already radioed in beforehand: “His health is generally excellent, he has no problems with his hands or neck. Only his bottom is affected, of course – but nothing that won’t heal in a few weeks. His legs were very good, towards the end he had some muscle pain in his thighs. But he got away without cramps or joint problems!” Considering the exertions that the 30-year-old had been through in the last few days, Kaufmann and his body got off relatively lightly.“Mentally it was insane”Especially since he had to overcome over 4000 kilometers and over 50,000 meters of altitude in sometimes brutal heat of over 40 degrees – and all this with just ten hours of sleep. Other crazy details: “During that time he consumed around 81,000 kilocalories and drank 113.6 liters of liquid,” said Minar. Kaufmann achieved his previously defined goal of completing the race in good health and in under nine days. “Mentally it was insane, the sleep deprivation and hallucinations were extreme,” said the newly crowned RAAM finisher.PraisePraise from record championRecord winner Christoph Strasser: “Congratulations, as a rookie he drove an incredibly strong race. I didn’t finish my first RAAM, so I rate his performance even higher!”
