Gran Turismo 7’s user rating is the lowest ever on Metacritic. This review bombing was motivated by recent microtransaction concerns, among others.
While all was well in the best of all possible worlds for Gran Turismo 7 with a press rating of 87 on PS5, Polyphony Digital’s car simulation suffered serious review bombing. This is the tumble with the players who stormed the Metacritic ratings aggregator to materialize their dissatisfaction.
The maintenance that does not pass
Within hours, Gran Turismo 7 became the ugly duckling despite its intrinsic quality. For which motive ? The title has been unavailable for more than 30 hours, both in single and multiplayer. With its mandatory connection, GT7 cannot indeed be enjoyed offline, except for two modes.
This prolonged maintenance, the reason for which we do not really know despite the press release, left a bitter taste and some rushed to Metacritic to make collapse user rating which is now 2/10. Yes, it is still down since it was 2.5 a few hours ago.
The software thus joins the lowest rated games in the history of Metacritic, ahead of World of Warriors (2.9), NBA 10 The Inside (3.0) and Cool Boarders 2001 (3.3). We will nevertheless bring a nuance by specifying that if this review bombing was initiated by players irritated by these problems, it is also possible that trolls took advantage of the opportunity to tarnish the image of this episode. A process unfortunately common on big games.
Gran Turismo 7: the disavowal of microtransactions
But what has raised the discontent among users is also the microtransactions. In and of themselves, they are not new to the license and have been there since release, but the latest 1.7 update has caused quite a mess.
Indeed, the Japanese studio has discreetly rebalanced the credits allocated to players after each race, but not to the advantage of virtual pilots. In some cases, the gains are much lower than they could be before the patch, or even compared to Gran Turismo Sport. As an example, the GT Cup Gr. 3 Autodrome Lago Maggiore went from 75,000 to 50,000 credits. Not to mention the price of vehicles which has also soared, such as the Porsche 919 Hybrid 16 displayed at $2.99 in GT Sport, against $40 in GT7. A nice inflation. Other races are more generous, such as the World Touring Car 800 on the Le Mans 24-hour circuit and its 70,000 credits, compared to 5,000 previously.
If Kazunori Yamauchi wants the prices to correspond to those of reality, he has promised “additional content, the addition of race events and other features that will constructively solve this problem”.
