Radar cars: 3 tips for spotting them: Femme Actuelle Le MAG

Radar cars are capable of detecting all speeding violations committed in both directions of traffic. However, these unmarked vehicles, often entrusted to private operators, easily go unnoticed on our roads. This makes them formidable for anyone who does not strictly respect the Highway Code.

Very precise radar car models

Since their arrival on our roads in 2021, radar cars have been discreet. The models used are indeed among the most common, but, fortunately, their number is limited. So you can pay attention to Ford Mondeo, Citroën Berlingo, Peugeot 508 and 308, Volkswagen Passat 7 and 8, Seat Leon, Skoda Octavia and Volkswagen Golf. A priori, these are the only models with radars.

Pay attention to license plates

Some have noticed that the license plates placed on the front of radar cars are not completely ordinary. You may indeed notice that the font used is not the same as that on your plate. In addition, the registration plates of radar cars are all lined with a reflective plastic backing, particularly visible at night.

Locate a black rectangle at the back of the radar cars

This is certainly the most distinctive sign for identifying radar cars whose windows are not tinted. Through the rear window, you can see an infrared device, which takes the form of a black rectangle with dark gray outlines. This device is used to illuminate road signs when brightness is insufficient. Obviously, this distinctive sign is only visible when following the radar car, and not when passing it. The best way to escape it is to respect the speed limits at all times.
