The Vapor-X range had not been updated by Sapphire for more than 8 years: the last model dated back to 2014.

From December 13, we will be able to discover the new generation of AMD cards, the famous Radeon RX 7900 in RDNA 3 architecture. This release will however initially be limited to AMD products only. Partner cards will have to wait an additional fortnight.

The Return of Vapor-X Cards

Never mind, Sapphire has fun teasing enthusiasts by showcasing its Radeon RX 7900XT and RX 7900XTX in Vapor-X version. It is not said that other models will not also be offered.

The Vapor-X have this particularity that they integrate a vapor chamber to participate in the cooling of the main components. Sapphire had not used this system for 8 years and its Vapor-X R9 290X.

From what we have seen of the Radeon RX 7900s from AMD, they will be equipped with a cooling system that is found on more cards: a heatsink assisted by several heat pipes.

Three 8-pin power connectors

However, the vapor chamber is not exclusive to Sapphire, since NVIDIA has already been using it for a few versions of its Founders Edition. On paper, it allows a little less cumbersome cooling.

In the short teaser video released by Sapphire, we notice other details, and in particular the presence of three power connectors. In 8-pin format, these are in line with AMD’s policy of not following NVIDIA on the way to the 16-pin “12VHPWR” connector.

Remember, however, that AMD’s Radeon RX 7900XT and RX 7900XTX only use two of these 8-pin connectors. Sapphire’s Vapor-X model is therefore more greedy, probably due to a slight GPU/GDDR6 overclocking.
