Radio continues to lose listeners, and Radio France continues to gain them

The sun is shining for Radio France. While the latest Médiamétrie delivery, unveiled Thursday, November 16, reveals a further deterioration in listening to the radio medium, the public antennas, France Bleu aside, are showing resplendent scores.

The first of these, France Inter, could have suffered from the multiple changes made to its programs by its director Adèle Van Reeth (extension of the morning show until 10 a.m., disappearance of “C’est encore nous”, end of “ The Blue Hour”, etc.). This is not the case: with a cumulative audience (AC) of 12.5%, up 0.2 points over one year, and 6.9 million listeners (+144,000), it has never made the best comeback in its entire history.

Franceinfo could have been sensitive to the departure of Marc Fauvelle from the morning show (he left to manage the editorial staff of France Inter) and his replacement by Jérôme Chapuis: in September-October, it attracted 200,000 more listeners to listen to it , which has earned it its best comeback in eighteen years – at 9 AC points, up 0.3 points over one year, it returns to its level of September-October 2021.

France Culture offers its new director Emelie De Jong, who arrived in office before the summer, “a historic return to school”. “We have exceeded 1.8 million listeners, or 127,000 more every day compared to last year”, welcomes the one who succeeded Sandrine Treiner. This represents an increase of 0.2 cumulative audience points over one year, or a record level of 3.3%.

France Musique attracts 1 million music lovers daily, or 1.9% of AC, up 0.3 points. “With FIP at 1.2% and Mouv’ growing at 0.7%, this validates our antenna complementarity strategy, rejoices Sibyle Veil, president of Radio France. And confirms that in difficult current times, far from controversies, the French favor the information and culture offers of the public service. »

France Bleu, however, casts a certain shadow over this radiant picture. With a cumulative audience of 4.5% (2.5 million listeners), down 0.6 points, it had never attracted so few people to listen to it for a return. If international news was able to favor its colleagues, it was not able, for its part, to take advantage of the strong local news of recent days: the floods in Hauts-de-France, in particular, began while the audience polls were already closed.

Europe 1 on the rise

Radio France is therefore generally doing very well, but the performance of the general antennas, which has fallen significantly (they went from 32.1% cumulative audience to 31% in one year), paints a mixed picture. With 5.8% AC, RMC is remarkably stable over one year. Europe 1, she, “makes its first rise in ten years”, welcomes Constance Benqué, president of Lagardère News. With a small additional 0.1 point over one year, the station, now in the fold of Vivendi, displays a cumulative audience of 3.8% (4.4% two years ago), or 2.1 million viewers. daily listeners (+81,000).
