Radio of a Bataclan survivor auctioned: the injured “extremely shocked”

The surgeon, who tried to sell an x-ray of injuries to a Bataclan survivor at auction on the internet, contacted the victim on Sunday but without showing the slightest regret.

The survivor of the Bataclan whose surgeon tried to sell an x-ray of the injuries at auction on the internet, is “extremely shocked” by the “mercantile approach” and the “contempt” of the doctor, his lawyer said on Monday in a statement to the AFP.

“This doctor, not content with violating the medical secrecy of this patient, saw fit to describe on the online sales site the private life of this young woman, thus making her perfectly identifiable”, also writes Me Elodie Abraham about his client, who wishes to remain anonymous.

He does not “seem to have taken the measure of his act since he did not hesitate to contact the victim on Sunday, to justify himself without showing the slightest regret or the slightest empathy towards him”, she underlines .

It is “a gross error that I bitterly regret,” the doctor finally said on his Twitter account on Monday. “I realize that I have completely lost my way in an inept and inappropriate approach which legitimately offended those I had the honor of caring for: the victims of attacks”, he added.

The doctor specifies that he destroyed “the work in question”. “No one could and will not be able to acquire it and I have not derived any profit from it,” he insisted. Addressing his apologies “to those who have been legitimately hurt and especially to the patients who survived the attacks of November 13”, the doctor indicates that he wishes “to be able to continue to serve” within the public hospital service.

According to Mediapart, which revealed the affair on Saturday, this renowned orthopedic surgeon, Emmanuel Masmejean, auctioned on OpenSea, a site specializing in the sale of NFT digital objects, the x-ray of a Bataclan survivor he had operated, on which we see a forearm pierced by a Kalashnikov bullet.

The radio is on sale for the sum of 2,776 dollars

The boss of the AP-HP Martin Hirsch had immediately announced that the hospitals of Paris would take legal action, denouncing a “scandalous act”. “The victim trusts the competent institutions and authorities to initiate all disciplinary and criminal proceedings so that such acts are no longer possible in the future,” said the young woman’s lawyer. It also reserves “the freedom to join in these procedures, so that the exemplary sanctions are commensurate with the seriousness of the violation and the contempt shown by this doctor”.

According to Mediapart, the radio was on sale for the sum of 2,776 dollars. The surgeon acknowledged the facts to the investigation site, explaining that he had done so “for an educational purpose”.

The associations of victims of November 13 “Life for Paris” and “Fraternité et Vérité” had also denounced this weekend “the stupidity and greed” of the doctor, and recalled that this “odious act” remained “isolated and not representative of the work of health professionals.

Opened in September, the trial of the attacks that left 130 dead in Paris and Saint-Denis on November 13, 2015 is due to continue until May.
