After sunshine comes rainy weather. But don’t worry, our Trick 77 expert Krispin Zimmermann has three indoor activities for the whole family to make the autumn holidays with children and grandchildren an entertaining experience, even in the cold and rain. Here are his best tips.

Tip 1: Make your own slime from psyllium husks

Knead, pull, squeeze – children love slime, and with the “Trick 77” version, which is based on psyllium husk, you can easily make it yourself. Psyllium husk, typically used for digestive regulation, is the main ingredient. You can find these in any supermarket or drugstore.

That’s how it’s done:

For a handful of slime you need two level tablespoons of psyllium seeds and one decilitre of water. You can add food coloring if desired. Heat the mixture in a pan, stirring constantly, until it thickens. Let them cool and your own slime is ready. For extra slippery fun, play with wet hands. Too thin? No problem, just use more psyllium husks next time you try. Your homemade slime will last for several days in the refrigerator.

Tip 2: Grow salt crystals

Children are fascinated by crystals, and with this simple experiment you can watch salt crystals form. All you need is water, salt, a glass, a pen, thread or string and some patience.

That’s how it’s done:

Attach the thread to the center of the pen and place it on the glass so that it reaches the bottom of the glass. Dissolve about a tablespoon of salt in a decilitre of water and pour it into the glass. Then it’s time to wait, wait, wait… The water evaporates, the salt crystals remain on the thread and grow day after day. Patience is rewarded because every salt crystal is unique.

Tip 3: The apartment becomes a Chügelibahn

Bad weather? No problem! Transform your home into an exciting Chügelibahn. The base can be a table from which the track can be expanded in depth or in height. Cardboard tubes, coffee capsule boxes, wide adhesive tape and other household items become building materials for this creative Chügelibahn.

Encourage your little engineers and builders to work with you. Start building with the words: “Gäll, I would hate to have everything fall apart again!” Because the focus is on fun and creativity, and at the end you will not only have a fantastic Chügelibahn, but also many happy faces.
